Computerized Sewing Machines

Computerized sewing machines are one step up from electronic sewing machines. They have small step motors and a microprocessor. The least expensive computerized machines can embroider letters and some decorative motifs. The more expensive machines have more complex embroidery features and can download embroidery designs from the Internet. This is done by either downloading designs onto a memory card and inserting it into the machine, or by a direct connection between the machine and your computer. Another good point is that they require very little maintenance.

The Brother CS-6000i Sew Advance Sew Affordable Computerized Sewing Machine – Click here for more info.

Don't let the low price fool you! The Brother CS-6000i has a lot more features for an inexpensive computerized sewing machine. Not only does it have a one-step buttonhole (a very important feature, in our opinion), there are seven styles of buttonholes to choose from, including a keyhole style buttonhole. It has easy to use buttons, and a small LCD screen. The CS-6000i also includes a plastic fitted wide table to support your larger projects such as quilts. This machine rates higher than any other sewing machine on Amazon.com, with almost 350 4-5 star reviews.

We found the Brother CS6000i at Allbrands.com, Amazon.com, and Joann.com.

Brother PC-420 PRW Project Runway Limited Edition Computerized Sewing Machine – Click here for more info.

The Brother PC-420 computerized sewing machine has 294 utility and decorative stitches, including 10 styles of one-step automatic buttonholes and 3 lettering styles, each with 55 alphanumeric characters. It also includes a knee lift, which definitely comes in handy when you want to keep both hands on your work while you lift the presser foot. It is also easy to go over thick seams, such as denim jeans. You can also create and save custom decorative stitches.

There are many positive reviews of this machine from Amazon, Buy.com, and Walmart.

Cons: Small monogrammed stitches, with a 7 mm maximum stitch width for alphabets. For anything larger, you would have to invest in a more expensive embroidery machine. Also, the needle position defaults to the left, rather than the center when you turn on the machine. It just takes some getting used to.

We found the Brother PC-420 PRW at Allbrands.com, Amazon.com,   Buy.com,   and   Walmart.
