How to Choose the Right Multi-Vitamin

May 17th, 2007 · No Comments · Health and Beauty

Vitamins come in two forms; capsules and vitamins derived from foods we consume. However, many doctors advise us to take a multi-vitamin daily for our health. How to choose the right multi-vitamin with so many on the market? Here are some suggestions.

Most would agree that a multi-vitamin which carries 100% of the daily essentials in vitamins and minerals should be the one to choose. For those who are over 50 ? the baby boomers ? choose a multi-vitamin which has additional doses of vitamin D, vitamin B12, and calcium.

You certainly have a wide variety of choices, be sure to select one that offers the main components of vitamin D, B12 and calcium. While you can also supplement your diet with vitamins found in leafy green vegetables, fruits, nuts, and whole grain products; having a multi-vitamin ensures you are receiving the proper dosage on a daily basis. Moreover, you don’t have to worry about taking individual capsules either.

Check your health store or pharmacy and check each of the different products available. Read the dosage for each of the necessary vitamins and minerals needed to maintain a healthy body; and then select the one appropriate for you. If you have anemia issues, you may want to include a multi-vitamin which has a larger dosage of iron, but be careful ? too much iron can cause problems. Also, you may have to supplement the calcium in the multi-vitamin with a bottle of calcium capsules as well. Remember, 1200 mg. per day is the recommended dose.
